E-commerce disputes generally fall into three categories:
True Fraud (Identity Theft): An unauthorized party uses stolen credit card details or compromised account credentials to purchase items on your website.
First-Party Fraud ("Friendly Fraud"): A legitimate cardholder or household member makes a purchase, receives the product, and subsequently disputes the charge claiming they never authorized it or did not receive it.
Merchant or Service Issues: Disputes triggered by operational missteps, such as delayed shipping, unfulfilled cancellations, billing descriptor confusion, or products arriving defective or not as described.
